OHIO WILLOW WOOD JOINS CENTER FOR THE INTREPID IN HELPING U.S. SOLDIERS

Today’s advanced medical technology allows America’s soldiers to survive injuries that would have been untreatable in past wars. Ohio Willow Wood is at the forefront of applying CAD/CAM technology to aid wounded U.S. military personnel recovering from limb loss.

Ohio Willow Wood partnered with the Fallen Heroes Fund, the private organization that funded the construction of the 60,000 square-foot Center for the Intrepid, to aid U.S. soldiers recovering from amputation. The Center for the Intrepid received a full version of OMEGA® Tracer® software, Tracing Hardware, a T-Ring® II, an OMEGA Scanner, and an OMEGA Carver to be used at the Center. These tools enable practitioners to capture limb shapes as well as enter measurements for orthotic shapes, manipulate the shapes for sockets, custom Alpha DESGIN® liners and various orthotic devices, and carve foam models for use in fabrication.

In addition to the OMEGA Tracer products, Ohio Willow Wood is actively training Center clinicians in the use of the OMEGA Tracer system and OMEGA Carver. Ohio Willow Wood representatives Wayne Fichtel, CP, and OMEGA senior tech support specialist Bret Wood set-up the system and conducted the first phase of training in mid-January. Fichtel will return to the Center between now and May to conduct the second and third training phases.

The Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio, Texas, was dedicated and unveiled to the country on January 29, 2007. The Center for the Intrepid is located on the Brooke Army Medical Center campus and serves U.S. soldiers recovering from limb loss and severe burns. The $50 million rehabilitation center features many high-tech tools in addition to the OMEGA® Tracer® system to treat and rehab patients, including an indoor wave pool, a 21-foot rock-climbing wall, and a virtual reality computer system.

Ohio Willow Wood, located in Mt. Sterling, Ohio, has been an innovative industry leader in the manufacturing and distribution of prosthetic products since 1907.
