Project Engineer


Project Engineer is responsible for the development, testing and implementation of product designs, manufacturing processes and electromechanical equipment used in the production of prosthetic and orthotic devices. Position will collaborate with other project engineers, production engineers, engineering technicians and manufacturing personnel in the creation of their project solutions.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop new products or product family extensions that level the playing field for lower limb amputees
  • Existing product revitalizations using new materials and processes
  • Product designs using LEAN development principles
  • Manufacturing equipment solutions using LEAN manufacture principles
  • Creation and maintenance of development process, equipment and manufacturing documentation packages
  • Adoption of the WillowWood Product Development Process and team culture
  • Manage external/internal suppliers/team members to aid in equipment development
  • Training of support team and production staff
Essential Skills Required
Project Engineer/Product Development Engineer/Equipment Development Engineer position requires a creative, innovative, self-motivated engineer with knowledge, talents and experiences in product development, project management and equipment design. Candidates must be able to work in a team environment, as well as autonomously, to meet team objectives and company goals. Position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or industrial engineering with a minimum of three to five years’ experience.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering is required, Biomedical engineer with pertinent experience will be considered. Experience may be substituted for the degree requirement at a standard 2:1 ratio.
  • Product development experience is required
  • Applied experience with parametric 3D solid modeling CAD required, Solidworks is preferred
  • Experience with 2D CAD part detailing/dimensioning to support the 3D modeling is required
  • Applied experience with the MS suite of tools is required
  • Good written and verbal communication skills is required
  • Utilization of DFMEA’s, PFMEA’s, PFD, Risk Analysis and other development process tools is required
  • Three to Five years’ engineering experience is required, Five to Seven years is preferred
  • Program management experience is a plus
  • Manufacturing equipment design, development, fabrication is a plus
  • Compression molding, metal turning & machining knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with manual mill and lathe operations is a plus
  • PLC/HMI programing experience a plus
  • Equipment electrical, hydraulics and air connectivity experience is a plus
  • Oversee cost estimations, design, specifications, fabrication and installation of standard and custom engineered equipment is plus
  • Ability to create equipment user instruction and coordinate PM schedules is a plus
  • Other work experience can be substituted in place of education knowledge at a 2:1 ratio
